Giant Manufacturing sees decline in first-half revenue

TAICHUNG, Taiwan (BRAIN) — Giant Manufacturing, a bellwether company within the industry’s manufacturing sector, reported a 7.4 percent decline in revenue to $887.9 million through the first half of the year. And net after-tax income also posted a significant drop to $39.3 million, a 29.5 percent decline, due primarily to unfavorable exchange rates, Giant said in a statement.

Shimano bike sales down 3% in first half

OSAKA, Japan (BRAIN) — Shimano is reporting that its bike-related sales were down 2.7 percent in the company’s first half, which ended June 30. Operating income in the segment was down 11.5 percent. Shimano said retail sales of complete bikes in North America were at about the same level as the first half of 2016, which distributor inventory was “somewhat low” in North America.  Bike-related sales were 129,080 million yen ($1.15 billion); operating income was 27,063 million yen

Strider expecting tiny competitors from 9 countries at its world championships

RAPID CITY, S.D. (BRAIN) — Strider Bikes is expecting competitors from at least nine countries at its Strider Cup World Championship event, planned for Salt Lake City July 21-22.  The company said it was expecting about 40 racers from outside the U.S., including toddlers from China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Japan, Russia, Tahiti, Taiwan, Thailand and Canada.
